Scholarship relies on the scholarly record. Models for scholarly publishing evolve, traditional methods of fixing the scholarly record are affected by financial pressures, and alternative forms are expensive and untested. Libraries and archives have sunk costs in the preservation of the old record and uncertainty about techniques for preserving the new. Who, what, and how much needs to change?
